- National retail — staff-level platform engineering
My career began in small-business cloud support and moved through enterprise cloud support, managed hosting, AAA gaming, and national retail, landing today in a staff-level platform engineering role. Each stop was a step up in scale: from fixing a one-person shop's server in the middle of the night, to building the infrastructure that got hundreds of artists' work into a AAA game, to building the platform a national retailer runs hundreds of apps on. The throughline has stayed the same: making the infrastructure and underlying systems boring in the best possible way.
That experience is the foundation for the consulting I do through Breco Tech. I've seen what works and what doesn't at small scale, at enterprise scale, and everywhere between, and I bring that judgment to teams that don't have a platform engineer on staff yet.
Principles
Philosophy
Treat your infrastructure like cattle, not pets: reproducible, disposable, and defined in code — not hand-tended servers nobody wants to touch. Modernizing production practices isn't a rewrite for its own sake; it's removing the fragile, manual steps that turn small problems into incidents.
Credibility
Kubernetes, on hardware I could touch
Years of running Kubernetes on-prem, at every scale — not just consuming a managed control plane.
- Hardware
- ARM single-board computers and low-power PCs through enterprise servers with hundreds of cores and terabytes of RAM.
- Substrate
- Bare metal, virtualized, and cluster-as-a-service.
- Distributions
- k3s, Talos on bare metal, and Rancher-managed clusters-as-a-service on VMware.
- Topology
- Single clusters through multi-cluster fleets.
